Joint pain, hot flashes, fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety are the most common concurrent symptoms experienced by breast cancer survivors receiving endocrine therapy. These symptoms can persist for 5 to 10 years, negatively affect adherence to endocrine therapy, and compromise people’s functional status and quality of life.
Acupuncture is a safe and promising integrative therapy for treating multiple cancer-related symptoms. Thus far, implementation-focused acupuncture research has concentrated on privately insured clinics, thereby ignoring socio-economic standing as a factor of health. This research study aims to test the feasibility of implementing an acupuncture intervention for medically underserved breast cancer survivors to alleviate multiple symptoms during endocrine therapy and identify barriers and facilitators associated with the implementation process.
